10. On Friday 27 November, 2015 I was interviewed on Greenplanetfm in Auckland speaking about our unfolding climate catastrophe, how the signing of the TPPA would negatively affect our ability to mitigate and the myriad of issues surrounding the single greatest challenge our species and biosphere have ever confronted.

Last October I was interviewed on the same station with Professor Guy McPherson as we began our NZ speaking tour, I had spoken to Michael Mann prior to the tour and had mentioned that Guy and I believed that we were already in abrupt climate change and Mike Mann replied “I can’t go there yet Kev“.

In my recent seminar Hamilton I asked NZ’s leading climate scientist Professor Jim Salinger formerly of NIWA “When are we going to accept that we are in abrupt climate change?” and he replied ” Now.  Abrupt climate change is under way”.  These issues and more in the interview.

Here I am, ‘Kevin Hester speaks to Lisa Er on Abrupt Climate Change and Surrounding Issues’:  Click here for Podcast.  About 59:45 long.  Another link is here.

Humans are the most destructive species on the planet, and the US military, as a single entity, is the biggest emitter of greenhouse gasses. War is extremely bad for climate change, and climate change may well be behind the start of wars in the future, as it was in Syria, where the unrest began with a serious drought.

Ocean acidification is very serious and Kevin explains how the sea is like a big battery and that works well when the CO2 levels are normal but as they are now, the sea is now becoming acidic. Kevin explains, “We are now in the first phase of abrupt climate change, with rapid CO2 emissions.’

6. From Monday, 29 June 2015, Podcast interview, on European News Weekly 28-06-2015.  Thankfully covered by super blogger Robin Westinryas SeeMoreRocks blog, ‘The Extinction Report with Kevin Hester‘.  Ample podcast is 1:06:07 long, click here.  My segment, however, only begins at about the 42:10 mark, but if you have time, by all means, please listen to the entire show.

It’s was with great pleasure to have been given the opportunity to discuss on European News Weekly the unfolding ecological catastrophe that we are all a part of. I’m looking forward to making it a regular slot. The news is coming in thick and fast in a non linear manner just like the great unraveling itself.

Drawing the link between the military industrial complex, the nuclear threat both in depleted weapons, emissions and the Nukes themselves is important. It was great to hear Sister Megan Ryan after her recent release from jail for her anti-nuke activities and the mention of the Kiwi contingent from Kia Ora Gaza on the flotilla to Gaza.

My segment is called the Extinction Report in honour of the 150 to 200 species who go extinct every day. Please bare in mind that scientists except that we have only discovered something like 10% of all species on this planet with the majority located in our dying oceans. Big thank you to Jimmy Hagan and Sean Arclight for the opportunity to get this message out.

3. Here I am with Guy McPherson, interviewed on Thursday, October 23rd 2014 on GreenPlanet FM. Podcast, 59:12 long.

How do we overcome this sociopathy called industrial civilisation? It is becoming apparent to many deep ecologists that we let it go terminal … due to its momentum and that the bulk of the first world has voted for material everything. Note, that conservative governments are in power, in NZ, Australia, Britain, and Canada with the bankers running the Democrats in the USA as they are essentially joined at the hip with the Republicans and so we are all lock stepped to follow the financial path to take the fruits of our civilisation now and extract as much satisfaction out of every moment of indulgence‘.

Kevin Hester

Kevin Hester is currently living on Rakino Island, a small island in the Hauraki Gulf near Auckland, New Zealand, monitoring the unravelling of the biosphere and volunteering at the Rakino Island Nursery is currently developing a proposal to create a marine reserve near by. The Island has no grid tied electricity or reticulated water.  I catch my own water from the roof and generate my electricity from the ample solar radiation on the island.
