Anyone with an internet connection and the courage to look fate in the face can see collapse either unfolding or coming at us at an exponential rate of knots.
The ever reliable Chris Hedges eviscerates capitalism, the U.S. Empire and the deep state that is grinding the nation, it’s imperial conquests, its victims and by default the living planet, into dust.
Chris clearly lays out the deadly trio of Acidification, Warming and De-Oxygenation of the oceans and the roles they played in the last 5 mass extinctions. “Microbes it seems are set to inherit the earth.”

“Those who speak truth are marginalised and ignored, dismissed as pessimists in a culture that prides itself on a child like optimism, at the expense of reality. We have a mania for hope, which our corporate masters lavishly provide across the political and cultural spectrum to keep us passive.”
“Dying civilisations make war on independent intellectual inquiry, art, culture and their burnt children. The corporate state rather feeds the thirst for illusion, happiness and hope and those that challenge this myth are heretics”. Not to mention ‘Lepers”
“The human species led by White European men has been on a planet wide 500 year rampage of conquering, plundering, looting and exploiting as well as polluting the earth and killing the indigenous comminutes that stood in their way. But the game is up. These are the forces that now doom us”. “The Urban poor are in chains and these chains await us all”.
“The most daunting existential challenge of all time is to ingest this daunting truth”
These are just some of the highlights in this ground breaking speech from Chris Hedges one of the few to join the dots on the coming chaos, as has the anarchist, evolutionary biologist, award winning Professor Guy McPherson
50 minutes of genius from the ever reliable, ever ‘Revolting’ Chris Hedges are embedded below’
“Rebellion is a moral imperative”. “I don’t fight fascist because I think I can win. I fight fascist because they are fascists”.
Thanks for all the work you are doing, Kevin. Please read Paul Hawken’s book , “Drawdown” and let me know your thoughts. I used to live on a Caribbean island a little like the one you describe.

“But even as we stand on the cusp of extinction we lack the ability to free ourselves from the myth of human progress” ( at the 38 minute mark).
Normally the great Chris Hedges skirts around our imminent extinction but not today. In this great presentation he calls out the cowboy capitalism that has ground the living planet into dust.

Hedges and Parenti dance around the certainty of extinction talking about feedback loops but not where they lead to which is an uninhabitable planet.

“Collapse does not arrive in this scenario as a singular point of terminal completion. Rather, collapse occurs as a a series of discrete but consecutive and interconnected amplifying feedback processes by which these dynamics interact and worsen one another.”

“The spectacular rise of human civilization—its agrarian societies, cities, states, empires and industrial and technological advances ranging from irrigation and the use of metals to nuclear fusion—took place during the last 10,000 years, after the last ice age. Much of North America was buried, before the ice retreated, under sheets eight times the height of the Empire State Building. This tiny span of time on a planet that is 4.5 billion years old is known as the Holocene Age. It now appears to be coming to an end with the refusal of our species to significantly curb the carbon emissions and pollutants that might cause human extinction. The human-induced change to the ecosystem, at least for many thousands of years, will probably make the biosphere inhospitable to most forms of life.”

“This year I have often been talking with people about the likelihood of near-term societal collapse, brought on by disruptive climate change.”
Anyone paying attention to my public comments knows that I have been speaking like Jem Bendell and Meyer Hillman for the last 5 yrs after I spent two years trying to deny the conclusions of Guy McPherson and then accepted the science after joining the dots few seem capable of linking.
The shit has hit the fan folks, my time speaking out about this is drawing to a close as is habitation on this planet.

Good news! WMO chief Petteri Taalas says that the world has a “30 year window of opportunity” to reduce the carbon footprint, reign in greenhouse gas emissions and to switch to clean and renewable energy.
I’ve hear that before. The world always has 30 years. Let’s party

It’s amazing to me to know how intelligent and analytical Hedges can be and then on the other hand he believes in a christian god surfing around in the clouds.

“Historical collapses were allowed to occur by elites who appear to be oblivious to the catastrophic trajectory (most clearly apparent in the Roman and Mayan cases).

The evidence is clear that we have crossed a multitude of tipping points and limits to growth the only question now is for how much longer Industrial civilisation can struggle along. After watching the recent fires in California and the asinine response from the twitterer in chiefyou’d have to think we are at a precipice. My views on the coming collapse are clear, the conservatives at New Scientist whilst gazing over the precipice cling to hope, an emotion I don’t entertain when analysing science.
