The unfolding climate catastrophe roundup featuring Professors Beril Sirmacek and Guy McPherson who were joined by Arctic Oceanographer Jim Massa, John Doyle and Kevin Hester.
“Losing the remaining Arctic sea ice and its ability to reflect incoming solar energy back to space would be equivalent to adding one trillion tons of CO2 to the atmosphere, on top of the 2.4 trillion tons emitted since the Industrial Age, according to current and former researchers from Scripps Institution of Oceanography at the University of California San Diego.”
“At current rates, this roughly equates to 25 years of global CO2 emissions.” Cascading Consequences of the Loss of Arctic Sea Ice
“The whole Arctic is losing 10,000 cubic tons of ice / second” Jason Box from the You Tube interview with Nick Breeze published on November 2021 Professor Jason Box | Greenland
Professor Jason Box is one of the few scientists addressing the issue of the Aerosol Masking Effect previously covered on this blog here; Global Dimming Keeping the Planet Habitable
John Doyle mentioned the seminal work of Professor Albert Bartlett on the exponential function; “The Greatest Shortcoming of the human race is our inability to truly understand the Exponential Function”
I had the pleasure of interviewing Jim Massa on Nature Bats Last. that interview and corroborating links are embedded here; Science Talk with Jim Massa on Nature Bats Last
Readers can find Jim Massa’s work at Science Talk with Jim Massa and Professor Beril Sirmacek’s You Tube Chanel at Beril Sirmacek
John mentioned Sabine Hossenfelder
In her channel “Science without the gobbledygook,” Sabine talks straight about science: No hype, no spin, no tip-toeing around …
Professor McPherson’s seminal work can be found at Nature Bats Last

Exceptional show, strangely comforting. I find the truth easier to bear in the company of this group. Gratitude abundant to all for your precious time and extensive personal and professional sharing. Please keep talking while we can.

Thanks to all five participants for a refreshing dose of truth-telling. While watching, I feel like I’m in the company of friends. In addition of course, I learned some new tidbits, just as I did with the last group discussion.
And like one or two of the participants, I feel strangely more joyful than before. Looking forward to more!

I wish Guy would allow comments & I wish I could get through to the folks on Nextdoor Brookings, most are Trump supporters & they believe in fairy tales, rumors, hearsays & outright Lies mainly about COVID & OIL.
Thanks to the willful ignorance of our rulers & our crappy “education” system, so many of us are very poorly educated in science, history & ecology.
I’m tired of the media calling UNnatural climate DISRUPTION mere climate change which is natural.
Already, countries like India are having fertilizer shortages, Europe is/was very conserned that they wouldn’t have enough natural gas to make it through the winter & 30+ % of their natural gas comes from Russia, the Ukraine is Europes “bread basket” & the Ukraine also has oil, coal & natural gas.
If Russia gets control of Ukraine, it will have Europe by their balls!
The USA has been in decline for many years now but most of us are in denial, their still pushing “renewables” as the “solution” for oil shortages, they still refuse to accept that we cannot replace declining resources with a resource dependent technology, WHY can’t they understand that simple consept?
We now have food “shortages”, water “shortages”, housing “shortages” but our “shortages” would not even exist if there weren’t 8 BILLION HUMANS!!!
That’s the REAL delema that no one in power or in the media will even mention, all they talk about are the SYMPTIONS of our excessive numbers & our DAM RULERS are still pushing for more STUPID GROWTH!
We are TOAST! We will COLLAPSE & that will be very ugly.
IF there are any survivors after our collapse, they will enherent a world of perpetual shortages, hunger will be a daily pain & we will never live like we do now again.

Sheila, those idiots over at Nextdoor… are NOT interested in becoming informed. What they are interested in is forming a coalition/tribe. They want to be the ones who control the resources when the bubble pops (their behavior is mostly all driven by unconscious algos, this isn’t an active conscious decision.) Even here, this small group of population critics, is attempting to find a tribe. It’s all useless of course, especially when we do this “tribe-seeking” behavior online, thousands of miles apart. If it makes you feel better, I concur with your assessments.
Consider this: maybe the US enticed Russia to invade the Ukraine to both tie Russia down in a quagmire, and also, to pinch-off the ascendancy of the European Union. This has the effect of pushing more capital into Wall Street/Team USA. At this point, the US is the least “dirty-shirt” of all the advanced economies, so this will keep the game going a little while longer, as war is disruptive on resource consumption, and also, we get to blame Russia for the famine in the third world countries (hey, population control!) I don’t know of our masters are evil geniuses, or if they just got lucky (again.)
Of course, there is still the problem of WWIII, but hey, if that accident happens, at least we can be comforted by the global cooling that such an event will usher in. 😉
Finally, it was a really fine show. There are so few of our tribe, I am grateful for the internet to be able to bring us together, if only just virtually, so we don’t feel so isolated & lonely.

Our RULERS are GREEDY, EVIL, MALE ANIMALS! All they care about is being the last oligarch standing with the most “toys”.
We are endlessly at “war” because our real RULERS PROFIT from those wars, notice how we never pick on countries who might actually be capable to defending themselves, countries like Russia, no, we pick on Nicaragua, Honduras, El Salvador, Grenada, Libya, Yemen, Niger, Nigeria, Panama, etc etc etc. Most of our wars are about resources like OIL, NATURAL GAS & RARE EARTHS & METALS. Since we were finally kicked out of Afghanistan, China has been making deals with the Taliban to buy their rare earths & metals.
People at Nextdoor, Brookings are MORONS, they just want to keep things going the way they like, big trucks, use once & throw away lifestyle, good food, stupid religion & lot’s of TV & SPORT!
They can’t face reality, they don’t accept what science tells us about reality & our origins, they prefer the LIES told to them by ignorant “god” men, they don’t want to hear about bad news.
They also want the power to make people believe what they believe, I don’t see any moves toward forming tribes, their many different religions divide them, they will never agree as to who’s belief system is “true” & must be enforced on others. They will be at war with each other.
I rather feel sorry for them, by clinging to ancient beliefs they miss out on the amazing things uncovered by science.
It’s these same morons who will go bizerk when we collapse & food go’s away from the shops, the fuel stores close, the grid collapses & they finally feel real hunger, cold & fear, much like our much hated homeless feel now.
I can’t change our probable future but I can still plant a small garden, some garlic & a few potatoes. The soil has been leached of nutrients because we usually have a lot of rain here, not no much lately, I have to add a lot of fertilizer & compost, soon, we won’t even have fertilizer so far fewer people will get fed. I hope I will be compost & soap by then.
I’m an odd, very independent, unbeliever in ancient nonsense, former biker, hiker, back packer, camper, skin diver, fossil hunter, fisher person, still a photographer, reader of non fiction & a computer user, never stop LEARNING, NEVER LOSE THE ABILITY TO WONDER!

30C above normal in the Arctic, 40C above normal in the Antarctic.
The days of us being called alarmist are drawing to a close. This is the new abnormal.
Arctic sea ice could hit maximum extent ‘much earlier’ than usual.

‘Disastrous News’: Widespread Bleaching of Great Barrier Reef Underway

Selkirk Weather:
Nothing but abnormal to report. But that IS becoming the normal. Temps 10-15C during the day but at least it’s still freezing some nights. First robin showed up yesterday and there were three around the house this morning when the dog went out. About a month early for this property…
All the snow has melted off and have had more rain totals than is normal for Spring, It used to still be snowing this time of year. The girl dog found a patch left under the trees a few days ago and threw herself down on it for a last rolling session. This golden really loves snow… The only real snow visible is on the peaks and higher hills above roughly 1,500 meters. Winter starts late and Spring comes early.

In spite of the ban on Coal imports from Australia to China last year, they were forced by cold weather to resume coal imports. A short search yealded this bit of news –
https://www.argusmedia.com/en/news/2192700-australiachina-coal-tensions-set-to-continue
“China allowed as many as 10 vessels carrying Australian coal to discharge over the mid-February lunar new year holiday after similar measures early last month, market participants said. The volume or vessel sizes involved cannot be immediately established, although China typically ships Australian coal on Panamax or Capesize vessels.
But while this could potentially be seen as an easing of China’s ban on Australian coal imports that has been in place since April last year, it is unclear when or even if the latest shipments will receive customs clearance amid ongoing Beijing-Canberra trade tensions. “These cargoes probably discharged for the purpose of letting [vessel] crew go home, as many were stranded at sea for months,” an official at a state-owned Chinese coal importer said. “I am certain they will not receive clearance until the diplomatic issue is settled between the two governments. ~ China’s imports of NAR 5,500 kcal/kg thermal coal from non-Australia origins such as South Africa are likely to only be a stop-gap solution, as most Chinese power plant boilers are designed to use Australian coal.
Chinese customs cleared around 406,000t of Australian bituminous coal in November 2020, customs data show, despite the ban. This indicates that China’s restrictions on Australian coal may not be set in stone, meaning the latest shipments could potentially be cleared, if needed. But the difference this time is that China faced a severe coal shortage late last year because of a cold winter that boosted heating demand at a time that domestic supplies were tight. This likely necessitated the need for Australian imports.”
There were no exports of thermal coal from Australia to China in January for the first time in almost 20 years amid the trade tensions. ”
So much for the “clean, green, revolution”!
There is NO viable substitute for energy RESOURCES & technology is NOT a “resource”!
Most people just can’t get their head around that FACT but they will soon be forced to as oil, coal & natural gas continue their decline & they get ever more expensive & in short supply.
Down here, it’s WARM, more like summer than early spring.
I went to my buried garbage can to see if I still had potatoes in there, I sure did & they all had long white stems. I guess it’s time to plant more potatoes!
I’ve been saving my pee to use as fertilizer, it’s diluted of course so I don’t “fry” the plants.
why waste it?
it contains much needed nitrogen fertilizer.
Speaking of “pee” I also rinse my yucky parts with water drawn from the used water I leave in the tub after a bath & an old grungy washcloth dries it off, still need TP for the shit after it too has been rinsed off.
Birds get a much better deal from evolution. While us females have to try to pee through slimy “lips” then the pee has to fight it’s way through that thick mop of HAIR which retains the crap carried by the pee before it finally fights its way through to the toilet! YUCK!
I keep THAT HAIR VERY SHORT!
I wonder what women in the 3rd world smell like when they don’t have enough water to clean themselves off???
BIRDS don’t have that problem.
BIRDS on the other hand have their waste products packaged in a nice clean mucus package that is passed out it’s cloaca with the help of some feathers that push the other feathers out of the way so it’s cloaca can protrude beyond the feathers to sqirt out it’s package, NO MESSY FEATHERS OR BUM!
So much for “intelligent design”! I guess it didn’t apply to humans!
I wonder just how much more ice needs to melt, how much more ch4 & co2 needs to be in the atmosphere, how many more grid & crop failures, how many more dead, starved bodies or how large a flood of migrants will it take to wake up our RULERS to the fact we are in deep shit & “renewables” can’t do a dam thing to change that? PANIC?
How soon will it be before those southern states ruled by ‘repuglicons’ will be calling everyone into official prayer marches to make things better again?
That won’t make a difference either.
If the corporate media actually had REAL NEWS reported, most people would be shitting their pants!
I expect Biden is glad he has another WAR to sell our weapons to, MORE PROFITS & WEALTH to the already rich, like Biden & his sponsors.

Getting a bit real at the bottom of the world, eh Kevin? Quicker than the Larsen A and B shelf collapse but then it wasn’t 90’F above normal and raining when those two broke up.
Can we say Oopsie?
