We are caught in a monkey trap and there is no way out. All the rest is spin. Brace for impact. A really thought provoking article from our friends in the Deep Green Resistance world. Starts as follows:
“Don’t talk to me about sustainability. You want to question my lifestyle, my impact, my ecological footprint? There is a monster standing over us, with a footprint so large it can trample a whole planet underfoot, without noticing or caring. This monster is Industrial Civilization. I refuse to sustain the monster. If the Earth is to live, the monster must die. This is a declaration of war.”
“What is it we are trying to sustain? A living planet, or industrial civilization? Because we can’t have both.”
“Somewhere along the way the environmental movement – based on a desire to protect the Earth, was largely eaten by the sustainability movement – based on a desire to maintain our comfortable lifestyles. When did this happen, and why? And how is it possible that no-one noticed? This is a fundamental shift in values, to go from compassion for all living beings and the land, to a selfish wish to feel good about our inherently destructive way of life.”
“The sustainability movement says that our capacity to endure is the responsibility of individuals, who must make lifestyle choices within the existing structures of civilization. To achieve a truly sustainable culture by this means is impossible. Industrial infrastructure is incompatible with a living planet. If life on Earth is to survive, the global political and economic structures need to be dismantled.”
Article continues here: Sustainability is destroying the Earth.
Professor Tim Garrett’s work on “Industrial Civilisation is a Heat Machine” is a must read, check out his website above.
“And it suggests NSW taxpayers are missing out on tens of millions of dollars in waste levies, which would be payable if the material was dumped in NSW landfill rather than being trucked 900 kilometres north and dumped in Queensland.”
Have a think for a moment about the carbon footprint of this ‘recycling’.

Another problem with solar hiways is CARS & TRUCKS! they shade the roadway, cutting out the sun so they generate zero energy. Have they so soon forgotten GRIDLOCK?
As mentioned in the article, their made of GLASS & are thus brittle, so not only do they generate less juice than roof top solar, they wear out sooner & cost much much more than rooftop systems.
If you want solar panels on hiways, why not put them in the meridian?
They won’t be shaded, trucks won’t crush them, they can be placed at the most effective angle, all those cars & trucks whizzing by them could help keep off the dust & it would be easier to service or replace them.
Easier to steal too of course!
Of course none of this will solve their primary delema, their not scaleable, their not affordable, we will never be able to replace more than a fraction of the fossil resources we now use to generate electricity & they are also TEMPORARY due to resource & energy limitations.
More grasping at straws & hopium.

Of course this civilization is totally NOT sustainable no matter how we try to prop it up, it’s going to fail & collapse taking billions of us with it.
This is what so many people just cannot accept.
They have all kinds of schemes to “fix” it, urban farming, “renewables”, recycling, veganism, getting rid of cows as though cows were our worse problem, no their not, WE ARE, organic farming while good cannot save us, nothing can save this civilization, it will fail, it will collapse.
I don’t like this conclusion either but that is where the EVIDENCE leads me, total collapse & the painful deaths of billions of us.
What is so painful is all of the wonderful living things we are pushing to extinction & this didn’t start yesterday, it started over 100,000 years ago. We can now follow our trail of deaths from Africa all the way to Europe & the Americas, New Zealand & Australia.
Where ever humans trod, extinction followed, we are next.

What is wrong with these people? Do they have that “dirty” a mind that they believe a image of a baby with his baby penis in the bowl of cereal he was eating, pornographic?
It was cute & funny!
BTW, that baby was uncircumsized so his tiny penis didn’t even show & it was in a PRIVATE MESSAGE! I didn’t even try to post it to Facebook!

“GREEN GROWTH IS NOT POSSIBLE SAYS THE UNITED NATIONS: ‘Green Growth’ became a buzz phrase at the UN Conference on Sustainable Development in Rio de Janeiro. The World Bank, the OECD, the UN Environment Program all produced reports promoting green growth. It became the plank of the UN Sustainable Development Goals. However a team of scientists led by the German researcher Monika Dittrich first raised doubts in 2012. Further studies confirmed that ‘green growth’ was not possible. Alternative policies are suggested such as *shrinking the advertising, commuting and single-use product sectors of the economy *a shorter working week *basic income * better public services * using the Genuine Progress Indicator to measure economic success instead of GDP.”

“Renewable energy is not the solution we think it is. We have inherited the bad/good energy dichotomy of fossil fuels versus renewable energy, a holdover from the environmental movement of the 1970’s that is misleading, if not false. Fossil fuels are correctly understood to be at the heart of capitalism, industrialism, and state formation, the results of which have been ecologically catastrophic. 1 Meanwhile, industrial-scale renewable energy has emerged as the protagonist of our times, positioned as a solution to our ever-increasing energy consumption. Along with market-based conservation and “natural capital” policy making, it is taken to be among the central mitigating forces against climate change and ecological degradation. ”

As I wrote in Life After fossil fuels: “Mining spews out acid rain, wastewater, and heavy metals onto land, water, and air (PEBI 2016). One-fifth of China’s arable land is polluted from mining and industry (BBC 2014).
