Nature Bats Last with Meteorologist Nick Humphrey

The June 2019 episode of Nature Bats Last on the Progressive Radio Network  featured co-hosts Professor Guy McPherson and Kevin Hester  interviewing  Meteorologist Nick Humphrey. The episode is embedded here:

Some background on Nick Humphrey:
Nick was recently interviewed on Radio Ecoshock in an episode titled Harsh News from the Weatherman.
Another excellent interview with Nick via Environmental Coffee House; I recomend subscribing to these two excellent channels.
“This is the slowest corn planting in recorded history, besting the 1995 record of 50% planted for this week.”
The unfolding collapse of the industrial food production in the US, Argentina, Europe and Australia.
Similar issues are unfolding in Mozambique where cyclone Idai has devestated croplands and destroyed the city of Beira where I worked on a development project in 1991. Most of these people were poverty stricken before Idai blasted and then washed everything they had away.
The great unraveling is showing signs of the non-linear stage of the predicament we find ourselves in.

Here’s Nick’s latest post about the methane threat from his Patreon Page;

I can honestly say this is one of my favourite interviews on Nature Bats Last. The honesty and frankness of Nick Humphrey is inspirational. I predict he will go on to be a world leader in chronicling the unraveling of the biosphere.
“One of the greatest shortcomings of the human race is our inability to understand the exponential function” Albert Bartlett.

It’s critically important to understand the fact that we are in the non-linear stage of the unraveling, change will happen with a rapidity that will make previous predictions meaningless. Dr Michael Mann et al’s “Hockey Stick Theory” writ large, even though he can no longer envisage it.
If we were coal miners we would be neck deep in dead canaries. Good luck everyone, soon the living will envy the dead.

I'm an anti-imperialist, environmental activist and blue ocean sailor, who is passionate about the earth and all it's inhabitants without favour. Brace for imminent impact as we bare witness to the non-linear unraveling of the biosphere and habitability disappearing for most if not all complex life on the only habitable planet we know of. To quote President Niinistö in North Russia: ‘If We Lose the Arctic, We Lose the World’. Folks we have lost the Arctic.

N.H. Like GM believes from the exponential climate disruption he is witnessing that our days as a species on this once beautiful and teeming with life Planet are now very limited. The immense sadness is we’ve destroyed what is possibly the most unique biosphere in this Galaxy, we’ll never know. And all we can do is distract ourselves and waffle on endlessly. As GM says we’re functionally extinct our habitat is disappearing: the vanishing face of Gaia.

Nick is a rare human being. He has both intelect, courage and honesty.
Last week Professor Guy McPherson and I interviewed him for our radio show Nature Bats Last.
I can honestly say it is my favourite episode since I have been involved with the show.

Prof. Renwick tells it as it is: “If the world continues to emit greenhouse gasses it will lock in a further 3C of global warming and 10m of sea level rise, according to a professor.” “Locking in many metres of sea level rise – that would happen over hundreds of years – we’d be redrawing the map of the world. We’d be displacing hundreds of millions of people, if not billions. It would be, you know, mayhem on a scale that humanity never had to deal with before.”

Reading between the lines and discarding the obligatory we have lots more time to reform hopium Renwick basically is saying what GM and Sam Carana is saying!!! Incredible! https://www.msn.com/en-nz/news/national/greenhouse-gas-emissions-climate-scientist-warns-of-dangers-ahead/ar-AACUUcv?ocid=spartandhp
If this really were to sink into the general public it’d change the World.

“If the globe is going to meet the Paris Agreement targets, the 1.5C warming above pre-industrial or certainly less than 2C less than pre-industrial levels, then we have to reduce emissions of greenhouse gasses and certainly carbon dioxide urgently.”
Nope, you can’t sell me that puppy. Renwick is lying and deliberately dwnplaying the multiple crises we face.
Neither 1.5C nor 2C is remotely plausable as a target.
Professor Peter Wadhams admitted in this space that 5 C is baked in.
    “Peter Wadhams says:
    May 28, 2019 at 2:59 am (Edit)
The analysis of climate sensitivity by David Wasdell is very important. I have been through it with him several times and am convinced of its validity. I mentioned it in “A Farewell to Ice”. The point is that here is a big difference between the short term sensitivity, which is used to calculate warming over a few years, and the long term sensitivity which represents how much warming the earth is going to be subjected to if you don’t add more CO2 but let the effects of the present levels work their way fully through the climate system. Short term sensitivity is 2-4.5 C, but long term is more like 10C. The crime of IPCC and other modelling outfits is that they are aware of this difference between short and long term, but still use the short term value even when they are doing hand-waving studies of what is going to happen over the next century or two. In fact it;’s not just the case that the magic 1.5C or 2C warming is already “baked in” to the global system – in fact the baked in figure is more like 4-5 C. Hence the vital need for carbon drawdown. Best wishes Peter Wadhams”

Kevin Hester is currently living on Rakino Island, a small island in the Hauraki Gulf near Auckland, New Zealand, monitoring the unravelling of the biosphere and volunteering at the Rakino Island Nursery is currently developing a proposal to create a marine reserve near by. The Island has no grid tied electricity or reticulated water.  I catch my own water from the roof and generate my electricity from the ample solar radiation on the island.
