Is Capitalism by Definition an Extinction Event?

Below is a truly magnificent documentary drawing the connections between the Class War and its attendant racism, Unregulated Capitalism and the destruction of the living biome!
“Capital is a mass extinction event.”

“For Land: on the capitalist mass extinction. Part one: Capital as extinction” is a feature length documentary arguing that capitalism is the force behind the sixth mass extinction.”
For the record it’s probably at least our Nineth Mass Extinction event:
” The film traces the destruction of the Amazon rainforest, the turn to steam in Britain, the clearances and colonialism to show this.”

“For years, researchers have expressed concern that rising temperatures, drought, and deforestation are reducing the capacity of the world’s largest rainforest to absorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and help offset emissions from fossil-fuel burning. Recent studies have even suggested that some portions of the tropical landscape already may release more carbon than they store.”
First study of all Amazon greenhouse gases suggests the damaged forest is now worsening climate change

The video above is from a post titled: The Iceman Goeth, Part Three: Extinction and Mass Extinction Events From 3.5 Billion to 66 Million Years Ago.
Readers can see the draft script and all the corroborating links embed in Professor McPhersons Substack post embedded above. Subscribers can engage with Guy directly and importantly support his world leading work, everyone’s got to eat & ice-cream isn’t cheap!

One of the largest Carbon Sinks on the planet is now a net CO2 emitter:
“The Amazon’s sheer size—it covers nearly seven million square kilometers, or about the area of Australia
Why Is the Amazon So Important for Climate Change?

What an incredible easy question to answer; well DUH! Capitalism as it is can only do one thing, use up and destroy everything it touches to enrich a very tiny segment of our species while leaving the polluted ravaged destruction for someone else to deal with.

Even a cat, when it shits somewhere, will at least cover it up. Open pit mining and mountaintop removal? This rancid Aussie princess has no sense of anything higher than greed, and she’s willing to do anything to get what she wants including bribing…ah-hem…’contributing to campaign funds to improve her chances. I just love the ‘school lunch program’ as a strategy:

Our colleague and my dear friend Professor Guy McPherson describes us as being “Born into Captivity” He describes the two main USA political parties as being the “Twin Cheeks of the same corporate ass”.
A country founded on the genocide of the First Nations people was always going to morph into a fully-fledged fascist state.
When I was living in occupied Ireland, during the war, in the early 1980’s, I watched the monster Margaret Thatcher say in an interview that she wanted to see the British political framework to evolve similar to the USA where two conservative parties competing for power, it was a stunningly anti-democratic perspective, that interview with Jeremy Paxman seems to have been scrubbed from the internet, if someone finds it can they let me know please.

Two peas in a pod they were so alike, Reagan and Thatcher, were they not? And 40 years later their visions have come true. Two extremely neo-Liberal in both countries vying for who will get the best spot at the billionaires cash-flow spigot.

Or in Guy’s parlance, which cheek is going to get control of the arse hole that is between them from whence all that cash and power spews?

Of course the real power is the billionaires behind the thrones…

Some words written by Thom Hartmann:

      A Far Left Radical’s Manifesto

The rightwing machine wants you scared of progress, but I’m here to speak their worst nightmare out loud…

      https://hartmannreport.com/p/a-far-left-radicals-manifesto-53a?publication_id=302288&post_id=173821215

      __

Hartmann still has a lot of hopium in him with a big helping of Idealism which by now should have melted away in the last 40 years. I still have some of that Idealism but I’m not expecting anything in this culture to somehow ‘get better’ because of some unexpected miracle happens that suddenly puts the Democrats in charge. Not at this late stage in the power struggle between the corrupt old men and old women of one party against the other. It’s always been about power and control, and to the victors goes the spoils is how that refrain goes, eh?

There are some activists that try to go against the flow as best they can in the confines of party rule, but they of course are doomed to failure because people like Musk or Thiel or Adelson or a host of others can just throw $250 million at their opponents and primary them out of office (and have threatened to do so) and their careers would be kaput.

Billionaires ARE the Deep State in this country, the Shadow Government pulling the strings of the politicians. Kings and Queens in another age…and they are heartless creatures lacking any empathy for anything that doesn’t directly benefit them.

Scary to realize just how far down the rabbit hole we’ve gone, eh?

Kevin, we are heading for a 1929-style Republican Great Depression but worse. It’s going to be very, very bad because people already cannot afford the rising cost of basic foodstuffs. We’re only at the start of it at the moment, but the picture I’m seeing is damned scary especially when you throw in the coming end of Food Stamps, the cancellation of free lunches for schoolkids, and the Food Banks running out of supplies. I’ve been delivering food to needy families from a local food bank since 2009 or so, and I can see it coming…

I hadn’t popped into commondreams.org in quite a while as it’s just too…Capitalist/neo-liberal Democrat-oriented for me most of the time. Too much freaking hopium and it gets annoying as hell to be honest.

But I did today, and what do I run into but Bill McKibben and his ‘hopes’ for a productive COP 30…as if there has been anything but nothing from the previous 29 years of these stupid useless meetings that the fossil fuel lobbyists get to make back-room deals with the ‘movers & shakers’ while having a luxury vacation.

    https://www.commondreams.org/opinion/cop30-progress

I’m pasting my reply to the article below. I don’t think they’ll like it:

Been a while since I popped into CD. Been posting my writing and thoughts in other places for a while but thought I should see what’s going down on this site.

And what do I see but Bill McKibben not being honest. As usual. Full of Hopium, brimming with optimism about a cheery rosy future of solar panels and wind farms…McKibben is absolutely full of it.

Different than the fossil fuel barons but still just as delusional as they are. Just coming from a different direction is all.

All the while we have the worst president in modern history destroying the country for his own benefit, cutting everything to do with environment and weather and science. More concerned with his ridiculous 90,000 foot golden ballroom than the death of this fragile industrialized civilization by a destabilized climate catastrophe.

Him and his very Fascist authoritarian billionaire donors and faithful gleefully destructive MAGA followers reap the rewards of his dementia-ridden madness, don’t they? The former of course is getting nothing but wealthier beyond their wildest dreams while the other poorer group (the suckers) are losing their SNAP food stamps and Medicaid health care but hey, they’re OWNING THE LIBS! I guess that’s enough for them because they still have prayer and can get jobs with the ICE-tapo beating up immigrants who are working the jobs they won’t do. Like picking the crops they eat. Damned hard work for little recompense.

The lunacy continues to accelerate, as does the collapse of our climate.

    __

Does anybody know how many tons of earth mining it takes to make a single solar panel? How much fossil fuel needed to run all the equipment and processing? Or the level of a high tech industrial base that is required?

Then we look at the batteries and the rare-earth minerals that various countries are scrambling to control because all of this is RARE, which means it will all run out just like fossil fuels are.

And I’m one of those that was lucky enough to get a small inheritance and spent it on a $24,000 solar system thinking I was not going to be as much a part of the problem that we all are. Silly me, eh? Then the 128 pound batteries started to die, and after a few years of saving my pennies I was able to buy four replacements of the lithium/ion ones. Not the 16 lead/acid ones that died are still sitting outside but the four are enough to get the system back up and running at least. Took 6 years of pinching pennies, and I KNOW I’m part of the problem because of the undeclared war over resources the corporate-controlled governments are fighting over. Lithium being one of those minerals. And corporations are willing to rip up the ground anywhere they can for it.

    __

In 30 years of free vacations in lovely spots around the world, playgrounds for the privileged few like Bill McKibben for the most part, and including the hundreds of fossil-fuel and nuclear reactor company lobbyists that are making back-room deals with the attendees, absolutely NOTHING has come of these COP vacations. Maybe if these meetings were held in the places that are being destroyed by the energy companies, say…in tents in the oil fields of Nigeria with no running water and buckets for toilets, no catered food, no cocktail parties, and make the attendees ride freaking bikes or WALK to the meetings and bring their own food perhaps; something might actually get done. Maybe if there were serious consequences for NOT following what these countries agree to… Bluntly, these people don’t suffer enough. Not nearly.

Oh wait, there are serious consequences. We’re seeing those happen all over the world.

One can only hope (there’s that hopium again) that where these meetings are they get hit by tornadoes or deluge downpour floods or typhoons/hurricanes or deadly life-threatening heat waves combined with a power outage that stops all AC for DAYS in their luxury hotel rooms…and shuts down the airport so they can’t fly away from it but have to sit there and suffer.

Nah, even then the privileged won’t get it, will they? That’s why they’re called ‘privileged.’

Canadian scientist Dr. David Suzuki talks about the upcoming COP, Capitalism, and many more intertwined subjects such as how the fossil fuel corporations bought politicians with 10s of billions of dollars, the Potsdam 7 Planetary Boundaries that the human animal cannot survive without… rambling conversation… Bluntly, he talks about it being too late and why. Fuck this stupid useless COP 30 vacation for the wealthy…Oh wait! How many fossil fuel lobbyists are going to be there this year I wonder; 1500? 2000?? There’s the money-making part of all this, the DEALS that are about to be signed for more destruction.

However, these meetings are not a waste of time but very good propaganda to keep populations anesthetized even as they get burned up, drowned, flooded out, heat stroked, hit by off-season tornadoes, etc etc etc.

Suzuki knows we are absolutely FUCKED and he fairly delicately lets the listener come to that realization. The look on his face when he talks about his 10 grandkids…

And now Canada’s new Prime Minister, the former fucking BANKER and ‘economist’ is scrapping climate regulations, wants a new oil pipeline, and is all ready to spend Canadian money on the discredited ‘carbon capture & storage’ boondoggle that doesn’t freaking work.

Oh, and is it going to be a surprise to read that the oil industry is all in for this turnabout? I didn’t think so.

    https://www.aljazeera.com/economy/2025/11/27/canada-rolls-back-climate-rules-to-boost-investments?utm_

So I’m assuming it isn’t going to be much of a surprise that the oil industry is quite happy with this turn of events. Power and money, after all, talks VERY loudly. I guess they’ll just ignore that Canada’s forests are burning the fuck up every year, and even burning all winter under the snow so wildfires can burst out really early in Spring…when it should be under 10 feet of snow still. That little town Lytton BC to the north of me that burned to the ground in 2021 with 122’F temperatures (along with the forest around it) was just a fluke, right? Couldn’t keep happening?

Oh wait, when did the huge wildfires burst into flame this year?
